So we didn't quite make it to Terrace Bay today. Actually we're about 60km away. There are no cities for miles out here, but we conveniently stumbled upon a motel/ restaurant/ liquor store in the forest. We're all happy for the night. Back to this morning though...
We started in Thunder Bay and headed out along the Trans Can. It was raining, so we were all decked out in our rain gear. That kept us dry for about 7 minutes.
Normally rain wouldn't be that big of a deal. Nor would just above freezing temperatures. But these two things combined made for one cold ride. Descending hills at 40km/hr on a bike while soaking wet in 3C is about as much fun as diving into Lake Huron in February. After about 55km our hands were too numb too change gears or use our brakes, so we stopped for a break in the RV. Will assumed the cocoon position. Our skin was about the colour of that sleeping bag by this point.
It warmed up a bit throughout the day, but the rain never stopped. It made for a long day to say the least. We had to take a lot more breaks than usual just to stay warm. Staying dry was a lost cause. When I wasn't squinting through the rain, the views of Lake Superior looked nice. By the time we got to this motel at 7 we were ready to call it a day. Despite this setback though we should still be able to make it to White River by tomorrow!
On a side note, Dad joined us for the first time today. He seems to have adjusted to the routine quite well. He even scouted out tonight's accommodations. "It's not five stars, but it's five rooms" was his description of where we are staying. Sums it up well.
